Mrs. Sophia Jean Coston passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2012 at the Wesley Medical Center in Hattiesburg, MS. Mrs. Coston was ninety-four years old. She was born Sophia Jean Nichols in Lynn, Massachusetts on September 30, 1918. She was the daughter of John and Margret Nichols. Sophia was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School and attended business college for approximately two years. During World War II, she joined millions of other women in the work force and was employed as an office manager at the General Electric Plant in Lynn, MA. One year after World War II ended, she met and later married Frank Coston, a local restaurateur, and moved to Hattiesburg. Frank along with his partner Chris Magola owned and operated the K.C. Steakhouse. Frank predeceased her. Sophia was a homemaker and assisted with family business interests. She was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church in Jackson, MS.
Mrs. Coston is survived by her daughter Estelle Lynne Coston of Hattiesburg and her son Dr. William F. Coston of Purvis, MS. She is also survived by one grandson William F. Coston, Jr. of Purvis and her granddaughter Elise Nicole Coston of Hattiesburg. Her sister Mrs. Edmund Phelan resides in Saugus, MA. Her brothers Nick and George Nichols predeceased her. Sophia is also survived by two nieces and a number of nephews.
A Greek Orthodox Funeral Service for Mrs. Coston will be held at 12:00 noon Friday at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until service time and entombment service will be at the Roseland Park Mausoleum in Hattiesburg. Rev. Andrew C. Koufopoulos will be the celebrant.
