Services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home Chapel for T/Sgt. Fred Eugene Herndon (USArmy-Ret), 83, of Hattiesburg, MS.
He died Monday, October 29, 2012 at Forrest General Hospital.
Burial will be in Highland Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
Mr. Herndon retired from Forrest General Hospital after 25 years of service. He retired from the US Army serving two tours of the Korean War and was a recipient of a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and numerous other military honors. He attended Main Street Baptist Church.
He will be remembered by his family as a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Marchman Herndon; his parents, Leonard and Susie Davis Herndon; and three sisters.
He is survived by three sons, Mike Herndon (Donna) of Ft. Worth, TX, Greg Herndon (Becky) and Scott Herndon (Ginger) all of Hattiesburg; a daughter, Suzanne Yates of Hattiesburg; a sister, Annie Pierce of Leakesville; six brothers, Richard Herndon of Savannah, GA, William "Shorty" Herndon of Mobile, AL, Charles "Polly" Herndon of Leakesville; Clyde "Ray" Herndon of Taylorsville; Lyman "Buddy" Herndon of Leakesville; and Leonard "Slim" Herndon of Willow Creek, CA; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 PM Wednesday at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home.
