Dr. William Larry Crowson

Hattiesburg

Dr. William Larry Crowson, 71, of Hattiesburg, died April 22, 2013, at his home. Visitation will be Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Main Street Baptist Church, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., with services immediately following. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Dr. Crowson received his Doctorate in Education from the University of Southern Mississippi and his Master of Psychology from Mississippi State. He was a former professor at Jones Junior College and William Carey University and was the first director of the Youth Challenge program at Camp Shelby. Dr. Crowson served in the Mississippi National Guard and retired as Brigadier General. He was a member of Main Street Baptist Church, a former member of First Baptist Church of Ellisville, where he served as a deacon and taught Sunday school, and a member of the Ellisville Masonic Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Doyle and Ellen Crowson and a brother, Jerry Walker.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Crowson of Hattiesburg; two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Tony Rahaim of Hattiesburg, Jennifer and Russell Parker of Ocean Springs; a brother, Leslie Crowson and his wife, Linda, of Oxford; a sister, Linda Huston of Meridian; three grandchildren, Anthony, Ally and Natalie; a niece, Mary Claire Crowson; and a nephew, David Huston.

Memorial donations may be directed to: Dr. William L. Crowson Scholarship Fund c/o Mississippi Youth Challenge, Bld. 80, Camp Shelby, Mississippi 39407-550, to be awarded to an outstanding YCP student who will attend JCJC.
