Hattiesburg

Marie A. "Peggy" Vaughn, 86, of Hattiesburg, died February 4, 2014, at Windham House. Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, February 8, 2014, at New Palestine Cemetery in Picayune.

Peggy was born in Fulton, Michigan. During her early years she was active in many of the military wife's organizations, Cub Scout den mother, room mother and former president of the local AKC Kennel Club. Throughout her life she lived in Arkansas, Germany (twice), Kentucky, Pennsylvania and Mississippi. She was a well-known softball pitcher and champion bowler.

In 1969, she opened "Peggy's Poodle Parlor." Grooming was her passion, and all her "clients" loved her and loved coming to her shop. She groomed in Hattiesburg for over thirty years, loving every minute. During her lifetime she also rescued and placed many abused or abandoned animals.

Peggy was preceded in death by her son, Larry Robert Vaughn; her former husband, Rayford B. Vaughn; her sisters, Nina Shira and Margaret Laderoot; and a brother, Jack Daymon.

She is survived by one daughter, Susan Boudreaux (Kenneth); one son (retired Colonel) Rayford B. Vaughn, Ph.D. (Dianne); three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Ann Peet of Ithaca, Michigan; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday from 5-8 p.m. at Moore Funeral Home in Hattiesburg.
