Dr. Isadore L. Sonnier

Hattiesburg, MS

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church for Dr. Isadore L. Sonnier, 85, who died, Sunday, April 6, 2014 in Collins, MS.

Interment will be in Roseland Park Cemetery.

Dr. Sonnier was a Marine Corps veteran of both World War II and the Korean Conflict. His education included a B.A. Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Southwestern Louisiana; an M. Ed. Degree in School Administration and Educational Psychology from Louisiana State University; an Ed.D Degree in Earth Science Education from the University of Northern Colorado and post-doctoral studies at Colorado School of Mines, Millsaps College and Scripps Institute of Oceanography in LaJolla, California.

He served as an educator in Louisiana, Colorado and Mississippi from 1955 to 1993 and retired as Emeritus Professor of Science Education at The University of Southern Mississippi after 25 years of service.

Dr. Sonnier is survived by his wife, Claudine Box Sonnier of Hattiesburg and their six children. Suzanne Sonnier Leggett (Mike) of Hattiesburg; Lt. Col. (Ret) David Sonnier (Lorri) of Batesville, AR; Joan Sonnier of Brookhaven; John Sonnier (Mary Kay) of Chicago, IL; Sharon Sonnier Davis (Rodgers) of Laurel and Dr. Charlotte Sonnier-York (John) of Hattiesburg; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a brother, Andrew Sonnier of Lake Charles, LA and a number of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, with a Rosary Prayer Services beginning at 5:30 P.M. at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home.

Memorials and donations may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic School.
