Funeral services will be 11am, Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at First United Methodist Church, Poplarville with interment in Poplarville City Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior.

Bertie Lou was born June 30, 1930, in Poplarville to Lee and Norfleet Morris, the fifth of 10 children - three girls and seven boys.

Upon graduation from Poplarville High School in 1948, Bertie attended Pearl River Community College, where she majored in Home Economics, graduating in 1950.

She worked as a telephone operator for South Central Bell during her high school and college years to help support her family after her father's untimely death when she was 14. After graduating from PRCC, she became a full time employee and transferred to their Hattiesburg switchboard office.

She married P.A. Tims of Poplarville on her birthday in 1956. For 58 years, they made their home on their family farm in Poplarville, where they raised four children.

In the early 1970s Bertie Lou became a teacher's assistant for the Poplarville Elementary Schools. She retired in 1992. Throughout her life, she was an active member of the Poplarville First United Methodist Church where she served as Superintendent of Sunday School, a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, and the Group II women's group. After her retirement, she particularly enjoyed working with the church's Braille Ministry. In addition, Bertie Lou volunteered in the Poplarville community by serving the residents of the Pearl River County Nursing Home.

Bertie is remembered for her exceptional loyalty to family, serving others, and for having a passion for children. She is survived by her husband, P.A. Tims, son Philip and daughter-in-law Marcelle Tims of Poplarville; three daughters -- Martha Davies of Kirkland, WA; Ellen and her husband Doug Rogers of Woodstock, GA; and Melissa (Missie) and her husband Steve Wertz of Seoul, South Korea.
