Maxine Smith Fagues, 74, passed away Tuesday, March 25, at the Hazard Health and Rehab Center. She was the daughter of the late Samuel and Martha Dykes. She is also preceded in death by two husbands, Johnny Smith and Rev. Homer Fagues; two brothers, Cleve Dykes and Ray Dykes; one grandson, Brandon Cockrell; three great-grandsons, Austin Warren, Tay Shaun Warren, and Michael Smith; and one great-granddaughter, Janice Denise Moore.
She is survived by two sons, Frank and Pattie Smith, and Willie and Karen Smith; one step-son, Shayne Patrick O'Brien; three daughters, Gail Smith, Nora and Wendell Reeves, and Angelia and Wendall hall; one step-daughter, Kyla and David Cockrell; four brothers, Frank Dykes, Billy Dykes, Sam Dykes, and Martin "Peanut" Dykes; three sisters, Jewell Pence, Bobbie Peach, and Dorothy Hayes; one special sister-in-law, Ruth Dykes; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Arrangements were handled by the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home in Hazard, where the family received friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, March 28, and funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 29, with Karen Campbell, Teddy Bailey, and Anthony Mullins officiating. Burial was at the Curt Napier Cemetery in Lott's Creek.
