Troy B. Fields, 97, of Hazard, died Tuesday, July 30 at the veterans center in Hazard. He was a veteran of World War II and a retired school teacher.
He was the son of the late Robert Lincoln Fields and the late Cora Baker Fields, and also was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Francis, and daughter Carolyn Bogie.
He is survived by his daughter, Joyce Elaine Messick of Ohio; son Winston Fields and wife Joy of Hazard; sisters Holly Collins of Louisville and Ruth Plock of Louisville; and brothers Theodore Fields of South Carolina and Dwight Fields of Ohio.
He is also survived by eighth grandchildren: Traci Tackett, Jamey Fields, Wesley Fields, Meg Voss, John Robert Messick, Stephen Bogie, Mark Bogie, and Beth Rethman; and 10 great-grandchildren: Coby Tackett, Carter Tackett, Dylan Fields, Dustin Fields, Greta Fields, Charlotte Voss, Ashley Bogie, Justin Bogie, Grant Rethman, and Carly Rethman.
Arrangements are being handled by Maggard Mountain View Chapel of Hazard, where the funeral services were held on Friday, Aug. 2 with Richard Carlson and Dr. Daryl Jessie officiating. Interment was at Garfield Baker Cemetery in Big Creek.
