Virgil Ritchie, 86, passed away on Friday, April 18, at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center. He was the son of the late Ezekiel & Rachel Ritchie. He is also preceded in death by one son, Cecil Ritchie; one grandson, Jimmy Jones, Jr.; one granddaughter, Lula Ritchie Pugh; four brothers, Josh Borkin, and Barter, Kenneth, and Otis Ritchie; and one sister, Ada Lou Ritchie.
He is survived by his wife, Lula Ritchie of Lost Creek; two sons, Shelby and Barbara Ritchie of Bulan, and Billy Ritchie of Lost Creek; five daughters, Loretta and Buddy Ronk of Lost Creek, Vina and Delmar Sizemore of Lost Creek, Rachel Ritchie of Lower Second Creek, Irene "Karen" and Jerry Baker of Lost Creek, and Brenda and Ivon Noble of Lost Creek; three brothers, Donnie Ray Ritchie of Winchester, Edmond Ritchie of Ohio, and Charles Ritchie of Rochester, Ky.; two sisters, Polly Easterling of West Liberty, and Mildred Rice of Rochester, Ky.; 20 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Virgil Ritchie were held at 1 p.m. with Eldon Miller and Emmitt Campbell officiating on Tuesday, April 22, at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home on East Main Street in Hazard, where the family received friends for visitation between the hours of 6 p.m and 9 p.m. Monday, April 21. The Ritchie Family Cemetery located at Cockrell's Fork, Ky., was the place of burial.
