David Edward Roberts, 66, died Saturday, Nov. 23 at his residence in Hyden.
He was born Aug. 31, 1947, in Hyden to the late Bertle Roberts and the late Nancy Napier Roberts, and was also preceded in death by brothers Bobby Ray Roberts, Paul Roberts, and Harold Roberts.
He was a life-long resident of Leslie County, and worked as a coal miner and electrician. He was a member of the Hyden Church of God where he served as a pastoral counselor. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam War, and was a skilled craftsman, outdoor enthusiast, and enjoyed collecting antiques, spending time at his cabin, and most of all his family, especially his two grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Roberts of Hyden; daughter Billie Sue Bowling and husband Wayne Ed of Hazard; grandchildren Haley Rayleen Bowling and Drew Edison Bowling, both of Hazard; sisters Edith Lewis and Oultia Morgan, both of Hyden; special aunt Oultia Garrison of Stinnett; special friend and neighbor Lowell Patrick Joe Napier of Hyden; special nephews Larry "Pig" Lewis, Bert Roberts, Jeff Roberts, John Ray Nix, Phillip Nix, and Matthew Joseph; special nieces Betty Helen Gibson, Miranda Nix, and Melanie Morgan, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, Nov. 27 at 1 p.m. at the Hyden Church of God with Rev. Logan Wayne Bowling, Rev. Andrew Farmer, and Rev. Justin Collett officiating. The interment will follow in the Laurel Fork Cemetery at Hyden. The visitation will be at the Hyden Church of God on Tuesday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. Military Rites will be performed by the Hyden-Leslie D.A.V. Chapter No. 133. Engle-Bowling Funeral Home of Hazard is in charge of arrangements.
