Murrel Baker, 83, of Campbell's Creek, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, at her residence. She was born in Yerkes, the daughter of the late Andrew Colwell and the late Dora Colwell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Arvel Baker; three children, Earl Bakers, Glenna Baker, and Judy Ann Baker; one brother, Nesbie Colwell; and seven sisters, Feda Mae, Susie, Hazel, Hallie, Gracie, Katie, and Addie.
She is survived by three sons, Larry and Vanessa Baker, of Campbell's Creek, Timmy and Dani Baker, of Campbell's Creek, and Danny Baker, of Columbus, Ohio; one daughter, Mary and Larry Griffin, of Campbell's Creek; one brother, Roy Colwell, of Tampa, Fla.; two sisters, Oppsie McIntyre, of Booneville, and Seba Morris, of Yerkes; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of other relative and friends.
Arrangements were handled by the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home in Hazard, where the family received friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, May 2, with additional services at 7 p.m. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 3, with Gary Bellamy, Jim Sluss, and Larry Gross officiating. Interment was at the Estes Colwell Cemetery at Forked Mouth.
