Ruth Ritchie, 89, passed away on Saturday, June 21, at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard. She was the daughter of the late Russell and Viola Woods. Other than her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Truman Ritchie.
Her life as a young woman was very hard. She worked long days in the fields while raising her son. She moved to Ohio and was a caretaker for an elderly couple, took in ironing, and baby sat. She met the love of her life, Truman Ritchie, and had a wonderful marriage. She took care of him and her parents until their passing. She read her Bible daily and lived her life for the lord. She enjoyed her puzzle books and took care of herself until two days before she became ill at 89.
She is survived by her son, Bob and Sandra Holland, of Plymouth, Ohio; two grandsons, Scott and Wendy Holland, of Granger, Ind., and Randy Holland, of Plymouth, Ind.; five great-grandchildren, Brandon, Chelsea, Kaitlyn, Bryce, and Tori; one step-daughter, Beulah and Charles Whyde; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Arrangements were handled by the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home in Hazard, where the family received friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Monday, June 23, and funeral services followed directly after, with Joe Grimm officiating. Interment was at the Yellow Creek Cemetery in Sassafras.
