Gladys Pennington, 71, of Hazard, formerly of Yeaddiss, departed this life on Sunday, July 20, at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard. She was the daughter of the late Bradley Pennington and the late Rachel Causey Pennington.

By occupation, she was a homemaker. She was a member of the Full Gospel Church of Jesus Christ at Smilax, Ky. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing, flowers, quilting, cooking, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Angie Carol Pennington; sister, Sarah Bell Pennington; and brother, Carl Pennington.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Elisha Pennington, of Hazard; son, Donald Wayne Pennington and Tina Joe, of Hardburly; daughters, Rachel Miller and Jimmy Ray, of Bulan, and Patricia Ann Whitaker, of Ary; brothers, Harold Pennington, of Avawam, Lonnie Pennington, of Hazard, Elhanon Pennington, of Liberty, James Pennington, of Manchester, and Darrell Pennington of Hazard; sisters, Francis Napier, of Hazard, Eulene Miller, of Hazard, Helen Myers, of Hazard, Jewel Harkins, of Hazard, Perlina Fugate, of Chicago, Ill., Pauline Baker, of Hazard, and Essie Pennington, of Hazard; grandchildren, Amanda K. Miller, Jimmy Elisha Dwayne Miller, Morgan Ashley, Billie Marie Johanana Pennington, Tonya Machiel Whitaker, and Donavon Johnson; great-grandchildren, Preston Garrett Tyree, Chase Zayden Sion Stidham, Calum Braxton Isaiah Hoskins, Gabriella Alison Miller, and Nathan Andrew Miller; and a host of other treasured relatives and friends also survive.

Arrangements were handled by the Dewayne Walker Funeral Home in Hyden, where family received friends after 5 p.m., Tuesday, July 22, and again from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 23, at the Full Gospel Church of Jesus Christ, in Smilax, Ky., where funeral services were held at 2 p.m. with Rev. Billy Joe Lewis and Glenn Overbee officiating. Interment was at the Curt Napier Cemetery in Lotts Creek. Pallbearers included Jimmy Ray Miller, Jimmy Elisha Dwayne Miller, Donald Pennington, Dustin Hoskins, Larry Brandon Miller, and Roger Dean Mullins.
