David L. Cleveland, age 88 of Burlington, died Sunday, May 5, 2013, at Twin Lakes Community due to complications with Parkinson's disease. He was born in Franklinton, to the late Horace S. Cleveland and the late Willibel Chilton Cleveland. David served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during WWII
and graduated from the University of Kentucky as a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. He worked as the Director of Development with Atlantic Christian College, now Barton College, in Wilson, N.C. He was a former member of the Lions Club in Kentucky and North Carolina and a member of Front Street Christian Church in Burlington, N.C.
He is survived by his wife of 66 ½ years, Ellen O'Bannon Cleveland, of the home; son, Larry Cleveland and wife Terri, of Wilmington; daughter, Nancy Cleveland Fogleman of Greensboro; grandson, John David Fogleman; brother, Robert Cleveland and wife Joan, of Winchester, Va.
A memorial service was May 11, 2013, in the Twin Lakes Foley Chapel in Burlington, N.C. The graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, July 21, in the Pleasureville City Cemetery. The Cleveland family will visit with family and friends following the service.
