Imogene Thacker Billings, age 97 of La Grange, died Jan. 23, 2013. She was born June 30, 1915, in Ninevah (Anderson County) to Rosetta Cole and John Thomas Thacker. She spent her childhood in Louisville where she attended Eastern High School and her adulthood in Oldham County.
Mrs. Billings was a homemaker and former employee of Pleasant Grove Hospital. She was a long-time member of Ballardsville Baptist Church - having been baptized there in April 1949 - where she had taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was also a member of the Honorable Order of the Kentucky Colonels.
She is survived by four children: Clayton E. "Bill" (Mavis) Billings, Smithfield; Barbara B.F. Williams, Longwood, Fla.; Rosalie B. Ashey, La Grange; Nancye B. (Ashley) Chilton, Pleasureville, and a daughter-in-law, Dorothy T. Billings, Greenberg, Ind. She is also survived by14 grandchildren: Joseph E. (Doris) Billings, Theordore A. (Pam) Billings, Roger A. (Rose) Billings, James F. (Kat) Farley, William C. Farley, J. Scott (Shawn) Billings; Michael A. (Crystal) Billings, Amanda G. (Brian) Burlock, Marianna Ashey, Steven G. Ashey, Kelley D. Chilton, Chelley L. (Rob) Spenneberg, Debra Wilson and Joyce (Dale) Stakelback. Also surviving are 17 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, 4 nieces, 6 nephews and the staff of Friendship Nursing Home where she lived for the past 7-plus years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 77 ½ years, Clayton Savage "Bud" Billings; a son, John Allen Billings; her parents; and four sisters: Aline Cannon, Alma Mazzoli, Jessie Phillips and Mary Frances Thacker.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, at Arch L. Heady Radcliffe Funeral Home. The Rev. Tommy Purvis, DeHaven Memorial Baptist Church and the Rev. Tony Wolfenbarger, Ballardsville Baptist Church officiated. Interment was in Valley of Rest Cemetery. Visitation was from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at the funeral home.
Honorary pallbearers were Roger A. Billings, William C. Farley, Amanda G. Burlock, Michael A. Billings, Marianna Ashey and Chelley L. Spenneberg.
Pallbearers were Joseph E. Billings, Theodore A. Billings, James F. Farley, J. Scott Billings, Steven G. Ashey and Kelley D. Chilton. Head pallbearer was Clayton E. "Bill" Billings.
