Mary Ann Smith Sanford, age 55 of Smithfield, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012. She lived in the Henry County community her entire life and worked for Henry County School system as a bus monitor for 21 years. She also worked the door at Six-Mile Jamboree where she spent time with her many friends. Mary Ann was very active in the community where she was loved by many. She is remembered by her family and friends for her loving and nurturing nature and her willingness to put the needs of others before her own. She was the daughter of the late Gladys (Bramblett) Smith and Fred Smith.
She is survived by her husband Charles Sanford, Smithfield; two sons: Curtis Ellis and Michael Ellis, both of Smithfield; one granddaughter, Hailey; one brother, William Smith, Eminence; three sisters: Jenny Smith, La Grange, Darlene Smith, Eminence, and Charlotte Waford, Louisville; four step-children: Jessica Fenney, Brandy Helton, Willie Mathis and Jeffrey Sanford. She also loved her numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews very much and was a big part of their lives. She was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley Draque.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at Henry Christian Church, New Castle. Visitation with the family will be from 2 to 4 p.m. at the community center of the church.
The family request that expressions of sympathy be designated to certain individuals. A basket for items such as sympathy cards, gifts or contributions will be available during the memorial or can be mailed directly to the family. Any donations of food can be dropped off at the church after 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21.
