Rodney Lee Heilman, 87, passed away Monday, April 16, 2018, at the Episcopal Church Home, Louisville. A native of Henry County, he was born on April 21, 1930, to the late Raymond and Margaret Banta Heilman. He is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Lola Heilman.
He is survived by his daughter, Anne H. Veno (Tim); granddaughter, Sarah Newton (Jordan); great-grandchildren, Peyton, Copeland and Harlow; brothers, Philip Heilman and Kenneth (Neil) Heilman; and a host of cousins, nephews and nieces that he truly adored.
Mr. Heilman attended Western Kentucky University and was a graduate of the University of Kentucky where he obtained a degree in agriculture. He worked for Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company, as a dairy farmer with his brother Philip, and for 32 years, was a soil conservationist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service, until his retirement.
He was a member of Westport Road Baptist Church and was an ordained deacon and Sunday School teacher for most of his adult life. In addition, he served two years in the United States Army, was a 50-year member of the Campbellsburg Masonic Lodge and an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan.
Visitation was held Thursday, April 19, 2018, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. followed by the memorial service at 1 p.m. at St. Luke's Chapel of the Episcopal Church Home, 7504 Westport Road. Burial was in Campbellsburg Masonic Cemetery.
