Samuel Z. Booher, age 72 of Smithfield, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at his residence. Son of the late William and Mabel Thompson Booher, Sam was a proud United States Army Veteran, serving in the 101st Airborne Division. He served as the State Adjutant for the Disabled American Veterans, Commander of the Henry County DAV Chapter 155, was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of New Castle First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Lockwood) Booher, Smithfield; two daughters: Tish Stewart (Tim), New Castle; Tina Spencer (Danny), Smithfield; son, Dewayne S. Booher (Liesa), La Grange; one brother, Bobby Booher (Carol), Pigeon Forge, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Laura Mae Barker and Linda Faye Hicks.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home. Dr. Dave Charlton will officiate. Interment will be in New Castle Cemetery. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today (Wednesday, Nov. 7) at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.
