Ella Spencer McClure was born to Ernest Russell McClure and Maxine Spencer McClure on April 3, 1930, in Shelby County. She grew up in Eminence and graduated from Eminence High School in 1947. She was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority at the University of Kentucky, where she received a B.S. degree.
She married Maubert Rhey Mills in 1951. They resided in Madisonville, and had three children, Michael Rhey Mills, Maxine McClure Mills, and Russell Spencer Mills. She received a master's degree from Murray State University in 1975 and taught art classes at the University of Kentucky's Madisonville Community College and Madisonville-North Hopkins High School. She later worked with supplementary retirement accounts for public employees.
In 1992 she married Claude Allen Berry Jr. and resided in Eminence.
She is survived by her three children, Michael (Nancy) of St. Cloud, Minn., Maxine of Carrboro, N.C., Russell of Louisville, and special friend, Denise Jeanette Bowden (Ron) of San Antonio, Texas; and their two children, Justin Meyer Bowden of San Antonio, Texas, and Brooke DeAnna Jorde of Austin, Texas. She leaves three grandchildren, Spencer Rhey Fosdick Mills of Winter Park, Fla., Zachary Mills Haggerty of Austin, Texas, and Rhey Marsh Haggerty of Portland, Ore., as well as the children of Claude Allen Berry Jr. and their families.
She is a member of the Eminence Christian Church.
