JACK EDWARD STEINBRECHER, 77, of Greer, S.C., went home on Monday, April 15, 2014 after a protracted illness. Jack was born in Huntington, W.Va., to the late Guy and Mildred Madeline Bias Steinbrecher and lived a life of service to his family and his country. Jack attended The Citadel in Charleston, S.C., where he played on a football scholarship. A veteran of the U.S. Army in Vietnam, his awards included the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. Jack is survived by his loving wife Jackie; children Wallace, Scott and Kristi; sister,Beverly Weant; and grandchildren Ashley, Maddie, Christian, and Jackson. No services are planned. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. "I have only slipped away into the next room. I am I, and you are you. Whatever we were to each other, that we still are. Call me by my old familiar name...how we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again."
