REV. JUANITA MCQUAID THACKER, 90, of Chesapeake, Ohio, widow of Thomas R. Thacker, went to be home with her Lord, and her husband of 72 years, on Sunday, July 13, 2014. She was the daughter of Rev. Gleo and Lillie Henson McQuaid. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers Herschel, Harold, Gleo Jr., Eugene and Paul McQuaid; two sisters Marcella Viars and Lillian Huff; one granddaughter Angela Justus; one grandson Jeffery Thacker; and one daughter-in-law Ruth Byrd Thacker. Juanita started her ministry as a small child singing with her family in the McQuaid Family Quartet. She later was called to preach and started pastoring her first church, 8th Avenue Holiness Mission in Huntington, and as they outgrew the building, they built a church in Chesapeake, Ohio that later would be called the Big Branch Church of God which she pastored until she had to retire due to illness. A few years later, she came out of retirement and started a Church of God in Crown City, Ohio until illness once again forced her to retire. She and her brother Gleo Jr. also had a radio broadcast for many years on WEMM. She was a member of the 10th Avenue Church of God in Huntington. Juanita is survived by her children, Brenda Joyce (Robert) Onderdonk of Ft. Myers, Fla., Carl (Marcella) Thacker of Glenwood, W.Va., and Charlotte Justus of Chesapeake, Ohio; grandchildren Rhonda Justus and Robin Kinzel who along with Charlotte were her caregivers, Carla Wormington, Daniel Tuttle, Carl Thacker Jr. and Dana Futrell; 15 great grandchildren including Taylar and Nick Nixon, and Turner McClure, who assisted with her care giving as well; two great great grandchildren; and special friends Suze and Owen Jenkins. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the following for their loving care of Juanita, Dr. Ronald Brownfield, all of the staff on the 4th floor Team 4 at St. Mary's Medical Center and great niece Melissa Brown. Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio by Pastor Darrell Buttram, Pastor Paul R. Farley and Pastor Terry Wagner. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point, Ohio. Visitation will be held 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at the funeral home.
