J. EVAN SADLER III

J. EVAN SADLER III, M.D., Ph.D., of Clayton, Mo., passed away on December 13, 2018, at the age of 67, of a rapidly progressive neurodegenerative disease. Dr. Sadler was born on November 9, 1951, in Huntington, W.Va., the oldest child of Buck and Clara Rose Thompson Sadler. He attended college at Princeton University and received his medical and scientific degrees from Duke University in Durham, N.C., where he also did his residency training in Internal Medicine. He did a fellowship in hematology at the University of Washington in Seattle. He married Linda Joy Pike on March 28, 1981, and they moved to St. Louis in 1984 to take up faculty positions at Washington University. At the time of his death, Dr. Sadler was the Ira M. Lang Professor of Medicine and the chief of the division of hematology. He was an active member of several of his professional societies and received many accolades for his research and service work, including being elected as a member of the National Academy of Medicine. Dr. Sadler is survived by his wife, Linda Pike; his children, Brooke and Evan D. Sadler; his mother, Clara Rose Sadler; and two grandsons, Jasper and Dexter Haller. Services: A visitation will be held at The Lupton Chapel, 7233 Delmar Blvd., University City, Mo., on Tuesday, Dec. 18, from 4 until 7 p.m. Private funeral services will be held the following morning.
