Shirley Apperson Obituary

DECATUR - Shirley M. Apperson, 73, of Decatur passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2006 at Decatur Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 7, 2006 at 10:30 A.M. at Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home with visitation held from 9:30 until service time on Friday. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association. Shirley was born June 7, 1933 in Industry, IL, the daughter of Alfred & Pauline Jarvis Bland. She was a graduate of Macomb High School and attended Western Illinois University. She worked at Boeing Aircraft Company as a Productions Illustrator until she married William F. Apperson July 22, 1954 in Springfield, IL. Surviving is her husband William of Decatur, daughter, Judith A. Howard and her husband Joseph of Decatur, son, James M. Apperson of Decatur and a granddaughter, Sarah Smithson and her husband Anthony of Decatur, GA. She loved spending time with her family, her dachshunds, and the various community and volunteer organizations to which she belonged. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Pauline Jarvis Bland. The family would like give special thanks to Dr. G. Patel, DaVita Dialysis Center and Decatur Memorial Hospital. Shirley was such a special person and I will always remember her kind nature and warm smile. She and Bill always made me feel so welcome in their home. She will always be a part of my fondest memories.

I was Mrs. Apperson's Social Worker at DaVita and was always so blessed to speak to her. Her smile lite up not only the room but my day as well! I will miss her...she was always such a joy!
