M. Sutherland Obituary

SHELBYVILLE - M. LaDoit "Doit" Sutherland, 76, of Shelbyville, died at 12:08 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2011 in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 10, 2011 in Woodlawn Cemetery, Effingham, IL with Denny Palmer officiating. There will be no visitation. Howe and Yockey Funeral Home in Shelbyville is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or Donor's Choice. Mr. Sutherland was born on August 30, 1934 in Greenup, IL, the son of James Scott and Vernie Snearly Sutherland. He graduated from Cumberland High School in the Class of 1952. Doit worked for Illinois Consolidated Telephone Company and served as their office manager in Shelbyville until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Shelbyville and a past member of the Shelbyville Rotary Club, Moose Lodge #1294 of Shelbyville, Pioneer Club and the Coon Hunters Club. He was also a past president of the Police Board for the City of Shelbyville. Doit was an avid coon hunter and a die hard Cub fan. He married Shirley Lee Klasing on July 6, 1953 in Corinth, MS. Surviving are his wife, Shirley; grandson, Dillon (Kirsten) Sutherland of Philo, IL; granddaughter, Jessica (David) Handel of Thomson, IL; great grandchildren, Maddix Sutherland of Philo, IL and Collin and Claire Handel of Thomson, IL; and sister, Helen Miller of Ocala, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Richard L. "Rick" Sutherland in 2009 and Douglas L. "Doug" Sutherland in 2008; granddaughter, Miranda K. Sutherland in 2003; three brothers, Dean, Laverle and Leon Sutherland; and one sister, Delores Phillips. Send condolences to www.howeandyockey.com Obituary written by family members.
