Robert Markley Obituary

DECATUR - Robert Lester Markley, 103, formerly of Decatur, IL, passed away at 5:05 p.m. Thursday, May 12, 2011, at Moweaqua Nursing Home, Moweaqua, IL. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 16, at Brint-linger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, with visitation one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery, Decatur. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society. Robert was born May 4, 1908, in Paragould, Arkansas, the son of John William and Nellie Josephine (Storey) Markley. He married Mabel Marie Blacett on November 24, 1928, in Decatur. She preceded him in death on September 6, 1988. Robert was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran church in Decatur. He retired from the Wabash Railroad in 1973, after 49 years of service. Mr. Markley is survived by daughters Betty Potenza of Cave City, Arkansas, Wanda Majka and husband Chester of Des Plaines, IL, Barbara Davis and husband Donald of Moweaqua, IL; grandchildren Cindy Conley and husband David, Bradley Davis and wife Mischelle, Marcia Maynard and husband Robert, and Mary Jo Ostrowski and husband Ron; great-grandchildren Whitney and Jimmy McCracken, Heather Sloan, Matthew Maynard, Stephen and Michael Tucknott, and Nicole Ostrowski; great-great-grandchildren Sydney and Makenzie Sloan, and sister-in-law Marie Markely Robert was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mabel, brother Delbert, daughter Nelda, and great-grandson Robby White.
