Dear Mrs. Curran, Brenda, Terry, Darin, and Susan's relatives I've yet to meet,
I am truly sorry to learn of Susan's passing. Please accept my condolences and know that I wish each of you an ever-deepening sense of inner peace as you process this loss in your own ways.
My memories of Susan include that she was a smart and very spirited individual, full of youthful spunk and vitality. I recall that in grade school, whenever she got on the school bus, the atmosphere always became more lively. I was pretty shy and quiet in those days and I marveled at her social skills, wishing I had them!
In high school, I appreciated her talent in band, especially her solid sense of rhythym, which added so much to our marching band's performances. She was a bold drummer I could count on, excellent at following rhythmic cues, which meant a lot to me.
Susan was an outstanding cheerleader as well, and a key reason our squad received the "Spirit Stick" award for one of the days at cheerleading camp in Simpson, Iowa. The competition was keen but our squad was one of a small handful out of hundreds to demonstrate strong, consistent spirit, and Susan's contribution towards that was huge.
I remember good times with her while producing our school newspaper and on G.A.A. (Girls' Athletic Association) outings too. She could wrap angora yarn around a guy's class ring faster and better than anyone I knew!
And did I mention she always looked like a million bucks?!!
I'm glad to have shared some of my "growing up years" with her, and will keep my fond memories of her alive.
wishing you God's peace,
Joy Bell
