Rita was a ray of sunshine at the University of Miami. I loved seeing her in shows and trying to keep up with her in Zumba class. She is such a shining example of staying young and living life to the fullest. Love to all of her family and friends.

My love and prayers to all the Deutsch family. I can not express how much I loved and admired Rita. I hope you remember me - my name is Mimi Sutherland. I was a neurosurgery nurse at Jackson when Marjorie became ill. Rita's courage and determination was inherited by her daughter. I recall so many soul searching conversations and those that recurred when Steve had his car accident. So long ago but as clear as yesterday. Rita touched the loves of so many people in so many ways. I am blessed to have been a part of your family's life during such difficult times. Rita and the memories I have of all of you are safely kept in my heart and my soul. I missed the notice or I would have been there.

Rita was one of the warmest, most genuine people I have ever had the pleasure to meet. Every time I walked into her office I walked out a happier person. Her wisdom and guidance made my time at UM a fulfilling experience, and I am sure everyone who worked with her would say the same. She was one of a kind and will be dearly missed.

She was one of the most enjoyable people who worked at UM. No nonsense but so sweet at the same time. My heart goes out to her family. The world certainly is a worse place without Rita here :(

Rita was truly one-of-a-kind. She always had time to listen to you and she always put her students at the heart of all the decisions she made at UM. She made a lasting impact on the University.

My name is Bonnie Price Plotkin. I am Grace Price's daughter. My son Kyle went to UM and had Rita as a professor and Dean. Because we are family she went above and beyond for Kyle at UM. I loved all she represented and will miss her spirit and vitality. My mother was very close with Sidney and they often talked with much fondness about Rita. Thinking of all of you and especially love to Lenny.

Jo, Teresa and family,

My heart goes out to you. This is a mighty tough life transition to lose your mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. Rita sounds like an amazing person, which doesn't surprise me at all knowing her daughter and grandkids. Blessings to you all.

Rita was an amazing woman and mentor. It was through her kindness, encouragement, and recommendation that I was able to teach classes in Women's Studies through the Continuing Studies while in graduate school. I feel privileged to have known her.

Though sad to learn of her passing, I see her still as a mentor, a model of a life well and fully lived

Rita knew the force of a HURRICANE, because she was one. A leader, adviser, mentor and friend to so many. I am so grateful to have know her and experience her force and most importantly her friendship. She was one of the few faculty members I remember who talked about being one of the world's top rate taxi cab drivers and the skills necessary to pursue your passion. She truly was one of a kind who has touched many and will never be forgotten.

Rita was an amazing woman and such an inspiration. She was often at my aerobics and kickboxing classes working out with us and making us laugh. She always had such good advice to give about school, careers, and life in general. I am going to miss seeing her and learning from her. I hope she is resting peacefully. She touched a lot of lives and I am happy to have known her. She was always joyful and kind. She will continue to inspire me in my everyday life and I will miss her.

To Rita's family, my prayers are with you. Rita was one of my first professional mentors, and I'm grateful to have known her. I will remember her strength, wit, humility and smile. As accomplished as she was, she would remind me that she was also a most skilled window washer. What a wonderful soul!
