Wilfred (Bill) Ellis Mullaney, beloved brother, uncle and friend to many, passed away at age 91 after having lived a rich and wonderful life. Born in Springfield Massachusetts and raised as a New Englander in Providence, RI, he moved his mother and siblings to Miami in the 1950's after his US Navy tour of duty on Guam during WWII. Bill died March 25, 2014 of old age. Memorial Services will be held April 11, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Coral Gables Congregational Church, 3010 De Soto Boulevard, Coral Gables, FL where Bill and his family were active members for many years. Bill was preceded in death by his parents John and Viola Mullaney and his siblings John Jr., a WWII hero, Viola Recio, Muriel McDermott and Barbara Mullaney. He loved his 32 years as a Postal Service branch supervisor in Miami Beach. Once retired, Bill traveled the world several times over, including many travel excursions with his good friends of the Baptist Hospital Dadeland Walkers group. He served tirelessly for the rest of his retirement holding key roles in several volunteer organizations including President of the Miami Dade Chapter of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), Stephen Ministries, and Hospice where he was named volunteer of the year. Bill was a happy Irishman known for his festive St. Patrick's Day parties, and for being the hub for family, friends, and holiday gatherings for most of his life. Bill never met anyone he didn't like. The first with a smile, often followed by a kind or encouraging word, he looked after his family and friends with tremendous generosity and was loved by all. It would be hard to find a more dedicated son, brother or uncle. Having no children of his own, Bill's greatest legacy was his status as Uncle, and not just to his own family. To this day many friends know him by the name "Uncle Bill," a title quickly adopted as he spun his special kind of magical spell over them. Bill was the kind of person everyone wanted to be with and inspired us all! He is survived by his sister, Eleanor M. Doss, seven nieces, Carol Faddis, Deborah Doss, Susan Walgenbach, Geri McDermott, Therese Cantrell, Kathy Klenzendorf, Joan McDermott-Duke and five nephews, William (Bill) Recio Jr., Gregory Doss, Timothy McDermott, Fran McDermott, Robert McDermott and many grand nieces and nephews who loved this wonderful man.

I was privileged to know Bill in his
later years as president & member of
my NARFE chapter. I remember him as
a nice guy with a gentle sense of humor.
He was devoted to his job as president
and he wanted to see the chapter run
well.
We missed Bill when he moved to
Naples. The world will be a less
wonderful place without Bill.

You were a great Uncle, a great man and a great friend. Heaven just got brighter to have someone as wonderful as you enter the pearly gates. You will be missed but never forgotten. You made me the man I am today.

Uncle Bill was my role model. As a child he counseled me about "serious adult matters" like the importance of saving money, how to wrap the perfect present, & the key elements of flower arranging, while also making sure I had a zest for life & knew how to live it to its fullest. He was an inspiration to me and I'm so glad he was my (Great) Uncle. He was truly a Great Uncle!
