LARKIN, FRANCES GOLOD - Miami
LARKIN, FRANCES GOLOD of Miami, Florida died peacefully at home on Friday, December 12, 2014 surrounded by family members. Born April 9, 1923 in Manchester, NH, she was the eldest of three children. She is predeceased by her husband Oscar Larkin, parents Sarah and Abram Golod, brother Ervin Golod, and sister Mildred Gruszka. Frances was the first member of her family born in the United States and the first to attend college, graduating at age 20 from the University of New Hampshire. She met Oscar in Boston, married him on December 28, 1952 and remained happily married for over 40 years. In 1978, Fran and Oscar moved to Miami, FL where she remained for the balance of her life. She maintained her involvement in early childhood education through Bet ShiraCongregation and the JCC of South Dade. Fran was deeply involved in Jewish life wherever she lived starting with Congregation Ahavat Shalom in Saugus, followed by Beth Israel in Jackson, and then Bet Shira in Miami assuming leadership roles and providing guidance to all. Frances is survived by her loving children, grandchildren Alexis Schwartz (Aaron), Brianna Shahvar (Benjamin), Amanda, Jaclyn, Daniel and Ethan Larkin, and great-grandchildren Lyla and Talia Schwartz, as well as many nieces and nephews.
