Kurkowski, Cliffod Joseph.,Sr., 69, of Key Largo, Florida, passed away on January 1, 2013. Born in Oceanside, New York in 1943 to Clifford V. and Margaret Kurkowski, he and his brother, Henry, grew up on Long Island, New York. Clifford graduated from Uniondale High School in Uniondale, New York in 1961. Clifford served in the U.S. Air Force as a radio mechanic repairman during the Vietnam War
- 1964 to 1969. He was based in the Philippines where he also met his first wife, Corazon Dulot. When he finished his tour of duty, he took his new family and went back to Long Island to work at Grumman Aerospace for two years. Later, Clifford took a position with Allied Fuel at JFK International Airport and then moved on to a position working for Trans World Airlines as a facilities mechanic for the next twenty-one years. Clifford divorced his first wife in 1984. In 1985, he started and owned a house & office cleaning service called Tri-K Services, in East Meadow, New York. For five years he worked with his sons, Clifford Jr. and Henry, cleaning houses and offices around Long Island, New York area. During a snorkelling adventure on Plantation Key, Florida, he met, dated, and married Betty Kay Kurkowski in June of 1989. Clifford took a position with AMR / American Airlines as a facilities mechanic in the late 80s at JFK International Airport. He then later transferred to Miami International Airport where he continued his career as an Environmental Technician & OSHA Safety Inspector for the next 25 years. He was highly respected by his colleagues & managers at American Airlines and won several awards for the work he did with the company. In addition to his work, Clifford was active with several charities such as: United Way events sponsored by American Airlines and Ride for the Cure. He enjoyed volunteering and it was a part of his life to help those in need. Clifford was a selfless man who always put others first. He had a great sense of humour and always liked to make others laugh. He was an honest man who was not afraid to speak his mind and you always knew where you stood with him. He was always willing to lend a hand to those who needed help. Clifford will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and co-workers. Clifford was survived by his wife: Betty Kay Kurkowski, his children: Clifford Kurkowski Jr. of Chicago, Illinois and Henry Kurkowski of Indianapolis, Indiana, his brother, wife and their son: Henry, Roslyn and Brian of Hicksville, New York.
