James William Harris

HARRIS, James William, 88, died on Monday, January 28, 2013, in Tallahassee. He was born in Atlanta, GA to Willie Dean Harris in 1924 and moved to Miami Shores, FL in 1939. Jim, and his wife Christina, recently moved to Tallahassee to be near his daughter's family. He graduated from Miami Edison Senior High School and then immediately called to serve in the United States Army during World War II. Using his G.I. Bill, he graduated from the University of Miami with a bachelor's degree in Business. Jim was employed and retired after 35 years with Eastern Airlines. Jim was a dedicated family man throughout his entire life and will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Christina West Harris, his children, James Kenneth Rowan, Timothy James Harris, Christopher Robert (Martha) Harris, Janice Lynn (Luis) Rojas, grandchildren, Jason (Mindi), Michelle (James), Christina (Jeremy), L. Kyle, Lilianna, Lauren, and great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Alexander. Big Jim, as he was affectionately known by his family, had a passion for gem stones and jewelry making. He often created his own unique pieces for family and friends. Jim also enjoyed spending time with his grandson freshwater fishing. The family will receive friends Sunday, February 3, 2013 form 2:00 until 4:00 PM, at Bevis Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 4, 2013 at 11:00 AM, at Bevis Funeral Home Chapel, burial will follow the service at MeadowWood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Faye Clark's New Horizon, a non-profit adult residential training program for persons with developmental disabilities.
