Joseph B. Merlin

MERLIN, JOSEPH B., 77, of Miami Beach, passed away on November 20, 2013. A native of Miami Beach, Joe spent many hours helping in his parents' kosher market with his brothers and sister. He graduated from Miami Beach Senior High, the University of Florida, and the University of Miami Law School. Joe was also a longtime member of Beth Israel Congregation. Joe was an accomplished lawyer, having practiced for over 50 years. He spent many wonderful vacations traveling the world. He was an avid reader, skier and swimmer, and enjoyed spending weekends on his sailboat. Joe also enjoyed cheering on his Florida sports teams. He loved to talk sports with his nephews, attended his nieces' dance recitals, and never missed a graduation or birthday party. Spending time with family was his greatest joy. "Uncle Yussie" will be remembered for his kind heart, generosity, sense of humor, and love of life. He brought so much joy to his family and friends, our memories will forever be of the uncle, brother and friend who always put family and friends first and taught us compassion, integrity, and cultural appreciation. He is pre-deceased by his loving parents, Lena and Edward Merlin and long-time girlfriend, Charlotte Nagymihaly. Beloved brother to Eric (Ellen) Merlin, Estelle (Arnold) Witt, both deceased, and Leonard (deceased) (Muriel) Merlin. Loving and devoted Uncle to Sharon (Terry Hawkins) Witt, Felicia (Eric) Gordon, Randi (Jeremy) Vishno, Elliott (Tracy) Merlin, Vivian (Marty deceased) Adler and Hayes Merlin (deceased). The "Greatest" Great Uncle to Jared, Evan, Ellery, Alec, Emily, Stella, Stephanie, Kyle and Adam. A heartfelt thank you to Rita and Ruby for their care and companionship. Joe will be dearly missed but will be forever in our hearts. Graveside services will be held November 22, 2013 at 10:00am at Lakeside Memorial Park. Donations may be made to the .
