Martha E. Shorter

Shorter, Martha E., 94, passed away on July 11th, 2013 in Alamosa, CO. She was born August 5th, 1918 in Conyers, GA to George Fee Alexander and Martha Larue Alexander. She graduated from the Georgia State College For Women. Martha married Myron Lester ("Les") Shorter on January 26th, 1940 and taught nearly 31 years at Our Lady of The Holy Rosary School in Perrine, FL prior to retirement in 1991 and relocation to Stuart, FL in 1993. She enjoyed membership in the League of Women Voters, The Stuart Garden Club and served as Secretary for the Banyan House Condo Association where she resided. Martha enjoyed tutoring her grandchildren in math and science during their elementary and middle school years, in addition to reading, sewing, crocheting, needlepoint and gardening. She is survived by brother Luke Alexander & wife, JoAnn; son Michael Shorter & wife Paulette; daughter Martha Goodwin & husband Don; grandsons Alexander Shorter & wife Ashley, Ethan Shorter; grand-daughters Jillian Geis & husband Ryan, Elizabeth Miller, Rose Poon & husband Kasey, Serena Willis; great grand-daughters Adelyn and Alexandra ("Addie" & "Allie") Shorter, Ashley Willis, Kallie & Trinity Poon; great grandsons William Poon and Rex Geis; and daughter-in-law Donna Shorter. Martha was preceded in death by parents George & Larue, husband Les, brothers George, Selwyn and Gaines, sister Josephine and sons Myron A. Shorter & William G. Shorter. Final arrangements are handled by Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa. A Catholic Funeral Mass and memorial gathering will take place in Conyers, GA, interment following, on a date to be determined.
