GAIL UBER Obituary

UBER, GAIL, dearly loved mother and grandmother, succumbed to cancer on August 1, 2012. Gail died as she lived, gracefully, and cared for by her four children. In the weeks prior to her death, Gail was visited by numerous friends and relatives. She did not fear death but was reluctant to leave her beloved grandchildren, children, daughter and sons-in-law, sisters and brother. She did, however, look forward to being reunited with her mother, Margaret Brogan McCarty, whom she lost in 1984. Gail grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio. She relocated to Miami, Florida in 1968 with her four children. After 27 years of corporate work, Gail retired to West Palm Beach to help care for her grandchildren Harris and McCarty, children of her daughter Amy (Wallace Hickman). She also cherished her time with her other grandchildren Ryan and Brogan, children of daughter Bridget (Bruce Abernethy); Jake, child of daughter Suzy (Scott Stevens); and Jack and Grace, children of son Paul Uber (Ashley). Gail was a 25-year survivor of breast cancer and volunteered for many years counseling those who suffered the disease. As reflected throughout her life, Gail was an enlightened lover of all things beautiful, especially art, jazz music and literature. Her favorite memories include attending artistic productions with friends, travel, and regular dinners with her book club. Gail leaves a legacy of grace, style, family, unconditional love, and strong feelings for all things beautiful in this life and beyond. She carried herself with class in manners and stature, whether she was going to work, traveling to see her grandchildren, out to dinner, or to the grocery store. Services for Gail will be held Saturday, August 4 at 11 a.m., at Palms West Funeral Home located at 110 Business Park Way, Royal Palm Beach, Fla., 33411. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Sari Asher Center for Integrative Care in West Palm Beach, Fla., or the Treasure Coast Hospice Houses, St. Lucie Hospice House in Fort Pierce, Fla., in her memory.

Not sure what to say?

Gail was a gracious, lovely woman. She had a gift for lighting up whatever space she was sharing. While she was warm, friendly and quick to smile, she also had a standout quality of elegance. I was at times part of a group of ladies that met weekly at Cafe San Michele in Coral Gables to share a champagne toast. Here is a toast to Gail, cheers, you are missed.

Dear Gail's Family,
I knew Gail socially, years after my daughter Kathy Erausquin Callobre was a friend of Paul's at Coral Gables Sr. High. Gail was bright, vivacious and so fun loving. I treasure her memory and friendship. Judy Erausquin Arthur.

Bridg, Paul, Amy, and Suzy~ I loved your Mom, and I'm so sad. She was such a strong person and she put up with a lot from us and other friends while we were growing up. I know how much she loved each of you and your kids! In the end she was blessed by a very big family and I know she loved that! She will never leave you in spirit. I think about my Mom every day and it's been 7 years. Cherish the memories and the time you have had together and with her the past several weeks! My prayers and thoughts are with you all! Much Love~

I was fortunate to know Gail for about 2 years, prior to her move from Miami. Gail was one classy, bright and interesting woman and I know she loved her family deeply. She had a radiance and grace about her. She was a beautiful woman. Peace to Gail.

We had the distinct honor and privilege to work with Gail over the past five years at Hausmann and Hickman. She was the consummate professional and did it effortlessly with elegance and syle. Although her work ethic was unparalled, her true legacy was her family. We never tired of hearing the stories and seeing the many pictures of each and every one of you. Gail was the first to share advice, wisdom and definitely a laugh. Her beautiful spirit was revealed as the mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Farewell Gail, to a life well led. May God hold you in the palm of his hands. You will be in our hearts forever.

Know that both she and you are in my prayers.
