Uncle Bob changed my life when I had no role model as a teen.
A compilation of English literature - a genuine concern -
& a loving smile propelled me from a street smart dullard to a thinking boy - thus the man
Like her dad, Ellen is kind

It is just thru pure happenstance that came upon this obituary. I studied English Literature under professor Sandler back in the early 70s. His passion for the subject was inspirational. I (in truth) looked forward to each class, and was so taken with the subject that I made it my minor. Now, after a long, and rewarding career as an attorney, I will be retiring at the end of February. Am looking forward to picking up a bunch of the old classics, reading them again, and remembering the remarkable man who had such a wonderful impact on my life. Thank you, professor Sandler. I will never forget you.

My name is Carol Miller and I am the niece of Robert Sandler. During the last two years of his life, he was very concerned about where his Writings and published work would go. I started a blog for him, Robert Sandler's Views. You can see his work and if you are so inclined, you can read some of the articles posted there at robertsandlerprofessor.blogspot.com. If you listen carefully, you can hear his voice and continue to learn from him. Additional information about his life and early years can be seen at the Sandler Family Archives blog, sandlerfamilyarchives.blogspot.com.

I remember Bob very fondly as a colleague at the University of Miami, as a tennis player (with an awesome lob, who could run down anything) and as a fellow-suffering and fellow-exulting (when they finally won the World Series) Red Sox fan. I will miss him.

I remember, so fondly, a Thanksgiving dinner nearly 20 years ago. We were meeting Julian's grandparents for the first time and delighting in their stories. Bob and Bernice told of their singing roles in "Fiddler On The Roof" and (with a little encouragement from the Ostergard's!) they blessed our Thanksgiving celebration by singing a duet! Our most tender thoughts are with each of you and we name you in our prayers. John and Carol Ostergard
