JAMES ABARNO Obituary

ABARNO, JAMES "JIMMY BROWN EYES", born February 4, 1958, passed away last Thursday April 12, 2012. Originally from New York, Jimmy became a Miami resident more than 20 years ago and considered himself a true Miamian. He is survived by his longtime soul mate Zenia Goode, Court Violette, Jeffrey Goode, brothers Frank, Anthony, Joseph and many caring friends. Formal services will be held Wednesday, April 18, at the Memorial Plan Kendall beginning at 6 pm. Jimmy Brown Eyes did everything well. An accomplished pilot Jimmy flew regularly to the Bahamas, New York and all over Florida. He captained his Bertram sport fishing boat throughout south Florida and the Bahamas with the same precision and expertise as he flew his beloved airplane. Jimmy was an extremely caring and generous friend---- if you were lucky enough to make the cut. He was a no nonsense businessman founding Reliant Cargo, a freight packaging company in 1995. Jimmy's passing at age 54 was way too soon. His love of fishing, flying, travel, friends and good food not to mention quiet times at home, made Jimmy really special. He was an accomplished guitarist/ singer who despite being somewhat introverted would sometimes take the stage at a bar or party and steal the show. In a post somber mood following 9/11, while on a cruise in New York harbor, he didn't like the sadness and demeanor of the entertainment. He got up from his table, took the microphone, asked the band to play New York New York and led the boat in a rousing rendition of the song. This was classic Jimmy. Jimmy never bragged about his vast accomplishments and success---- he didn't have to. He was a quiet gentleman, a real man's man and the finest friend one could ask for. A celebration of Jimmy's life will be held Saturday, April 28th around 11am at the Black Point Marina Ocean Grill, a favorite Jimmy hang-out. Come and tell a Jimmy Brown Eyes story and give a toast in his honor. View this Guest Book at www. MiamiHerald.com/obituaries.

We knew Jimmy for many years and he was a good friend and next door neighbor. When we wanted to sell our home he bought it for the asking price and made it so easy for us. He was a good fishing buddy and I caught my one and only swordfish while fishing in the middle of the night with him. I also worked for him for a day as a mate on his boat and that was really fun. We fished a few tournaments together on my boat and on his boat too. When Terri and I moved to a new home one of the things we missed most was having Jimmy and Zenia as our next door neighbors. We stayed in touch from time to time. We'll really miss Jimmy. He was one of the good guys.
