It was with profound sadness that I heard the passing of this great man of the century. Dr. Hertz, you will be missed by all of your students! You are such a rare individual whose extraordinary kindness and generosity have touched so many hearts and changed so many lives, especially those of your students. No more reading Sherlock Holmes stories, Dr. Hertz, I have learned my English, hopefully to your satisfactory. I will be forever grateful to you, and to your loving family.

David Bendel Hertz was a rare individual in the XXI century, a genius pedagogue who was also a man of letters and a driving business force in the American century. One hundred men and women such as these today would put our sputtering economy together in a year. David Hertz was indeed a member of the Greatest Generation and he will be missed. Ellen Walroth
