NIVEN BERTHA, born in Cuba on March 26, 1925, passed away peacefully in her sleep early Sunday morning, May 20, 2012. Her parents immigrated from Turkey to Cuba, where Bertha and her older sister, Belina, were raised. A seamstress by trade, Bertha was a diligent worker and enjoyed making people happy. However, she truly made her legacy when she married her soul mate, Morris Niven, and had two children, John (Mary) Niven and Cora (Freddy) Nusbaum. Bertha was further blessed with four grandchildren, Lisa, Vanessa, Heather, and Jessica, which further completed her family and gave her endless amounts of joy. Bertha was privileged with the joy and honor of watching her own grandchildren have children of their own and welcome six great-grandchildren, into her family. With family being the most important aspect of her life, she was also fortunate to share in a close relationship with her nephew, Louis (Bell) Stabinski, and niece Raquel Leib. After their migration from Cuba, Bertha and her husband Morris moved their family to Connecticut. Eventually, they settled in Miami, FL, where they ensured that their children were given endless opportunities and the strength of a close, loving family. As her son became a Doctor, and her daughter became a teacher and one of her closest friends, Bertha took great pride in the accomplishments of her family. Bertha's greatest joy was spent opening her home to her family and friends, close and extended, and preparing special family recipes for all to enjoy during holidays and other family gatherings. Bertha's constant devotion to her family instilled strong family values, traditions, and memories that will never be forgotten. Bertha is survived by her older sister, Belina Stabinksi, her son, Dr. John (Mary) Niven, her daughter Cora (Freddy) Nusbaum, grandchildren Lisa (Andy) Simon, Vanessa (Jason) Zedner, Heather (Jeff) Zaitz, Jessica Nusbaum, Ira (Stacey) Nusbaum, and Joey Nusbaum, six great grandchildren, Joshua, Jared, Ella, Ethan, Jaden, Brielle, her nephew Louis (Bell), niece (Raquel), and countless extended family and friends who will cherish her memory. Graveside funeral service today (Monday) at 1:00P.M. at Lakeside Memorial Park 10301 N.W. 25th Street, Doral, Fl. 33172. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bertha Niven can be made to the Cuban Hebrew Congregation. BLASBERG-RUBIN-ZILBERT 305-5386371 View this Guest Book at www. MiamiHerald.com/obituaries.
