Robert Caxton Doggett

DOGGETT , CAXTON "1915-2014" Lake Junaluska, NC- Robert Caxton Doggett, 98, retired UMC minister, died January 13, 2014, at his home in North Carolina. Over forty years he served as pastor of ten Florida United Methodist churches: Coronado Beach, Concord Park, Mt. Dora, Rader Memorial in Miami, Winter Park, First Church Lakeland, Hyde Park in Tampa, Melrose Park in Ft. Lauderdale, Arlington in Jacksonville, and Community in Daytona. He championed civil rights causes in the 1950's and and was an early supporter of the United Nations. Later he received as his associate Florida's first female UMC pastor, Charlene Kammerer, now a retired Bishop. She spoke at his memorial service in North Carolina. Reverend Doggett is preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Ashton Doggett. He is survived by his daughter Maurine Doggett (spouse Jim Thacker) of Elkins Park PA, his daughter Abigail Doggett Bordeaux (spouse David H. Doggett Bordeaux) of Atlanta GA, his four grandchildren and his four great grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters May Evelyn Rogers and Karolyn Cain of Columbus MS, and brother Thad Doggett of Denver CO. A graveside service will be held in June in New Smyrna Beach.
