Brandt, Charles Ray (Charlie), 86, of Miami passed away on September 7, 2012. He was born on May 29, 1926 to Jack and Nellie Brandt of Key West, Florida. Charlie served in the US Navy Seabees during WWII and the US Marines during the Korean War. For over fifty years he was a distinguished member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. He worked at his trade as a finish carpenter. Charlie was an avid model boat builder. His models were displayed in Museums in the United States, Mexico and Spain. Later in life he enjoyed building bird houses, doll and baby furniture for his great granddaughters. Charlie was also a die hard University of Miami Hurricanes football fan. He met his lovely wife of 58 years, Lillian, in downtown Miami. They were married June 6th, 1954. He was a great family man. Summers were spent on the road finding adventures all over the United States. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America with his son. Closer to home, the family would spend weekends fishing in the Florida Keys or just getting together to enjoy each other. His neighbors considered him the grandfather to all their children on the block. In addition to his wife Lillian, Charlie is survived by his daughter Lenore Hamlett Townsend (Thayer Kim Sr.), his son Dennis Brandt, (Lari Levey Brandt), his three grandsons, Thayer Kim Townsend Jr., Brian Townsend and Michael Townsend, and his two great granddaughters Hayli and his namesake Charli Renee Townsend. A Celebration of his life will be held at 2pm, October 6, 2012 at the Kendall Presbyterian Church at 8485 SW 112th Street, Miami, FL, 33156. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Food For The Poor, 6401 Lyons Road, Coconut Creek, Florida 33073.
