MYRTETUS, DOROTHY DUFFY August 25, 1937 - October 16, 2012 Dorothy Duffy Myrtetus, 75, died on October 16, 2012. She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania the second of six sisters, and was raised in Coral Gables, Florida, attending the Academy of the Assumption, St. Theresa School and graduating from Rosemont College. She worked as an elementary school teacher at Banyan Elementary School in West Miami, until she married and had seven children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward V. Duffy and Dorothy Davis Duffy (a/k/a Stoney & Ed), her beloved husband, Joseph W. Myrtetus, her youngest son, Colin, and family hounds, Butch & Rachel. She is survived by her five sisters: Dussy Horan, Kate Kilbride (Chuck), Jeanne Higgins, Claire Foster (Will) and Bonnie Esslinger; her children: Duffy (Conchi), Joe (Joanne), Peter (her favorite), Paul (Vivian), Brian, Claire Drummond (Richard), Claudia Orrego (Colin); and, her grandchildren: Ian Myrtetus, Sean Myrtetus, Caroline Myrtetus, Ana Myrtetus, James Myrtetus, Ellie Myrtetus, Max Myrtetus, Reed Drummond and Gracie May Drummond. She was a loving mother and devoted wife. Her children, nieces & nephews, and the children of friends and neighbors were the center of her life. She and Joe were long time members of the Church of the Epiphany parish and school communities, serving on boards, committees and parish organizations while their seven children attended Epiphany School. Dotty was involved in countless other community organizations and charities. She owned and operated "Dotty's," a women's apparel shop on Red Road in South Miami. She was renowned for her sewing and 94th Street Original brand jams, dresses, quilts, costumes and more. Her love of baking and creativity were what made her cakes for special occasions so amazing. Dotty had a big and generous heart, and a temper not to be tested. She made it her mission in life to take care of and help as many people as she could - and this is evident through the foster children, school children, nieces and nephews, friends, neighbors and her own children who have been touched by her strong faith in God and her belief in helping others. She had an influence on so many, and left an impact upon everyone she met. Family and friends all remember the big red house on S.W. 94th Street, where she lived, raised her seven children and many others, and created memories that will always be a part of our lives. A mass and memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. at the Church of the Epiphany located at 8081 S.W. 54th Court, Miami, Florida 33143.
