GARLAND PHILANDER CARR

CARR, GARLAND PHILANDER, (DADDY, GRANDPA, UNCLE GARLAND "UNCLE DELICIOUS"), of Miami Shores, FL, joined his beloved wife, Vivian Marie Carr on May 11, 2011. He was born in Fredericksburg, VA to Hiter and Martha on June 28, 1927. Garland served his Country honorably, serving two terms in the Military; the first with the Navy, and then the Marines where he earned the rank of Staff Sergeant. While in the military, he was stationed in Key West where he met the love of his life (Vivian), and after fulfilling his military service, married and settled on the Island. Although he held several jobs in his early years; his heart was always in the grocery store he ran located on Caroline Street (Key West), formerly known as Santana's. This small corner store was considered by many to be the local gathering place. Garland was preceded in death by his parents Hiter Daniel Carr and Martha Howdershelt, brother's Hiter Daniel Carr Jr., Herman Carr, and Elmer Carr, and his sister Loretta Bradley, all of Virginia. Garland is survived by his sister Ora Bray and brother Vincent (Mamie) Carr of Virginia, his two loving daughters, Debbie (Dr. Stephen) Clifford and Tina Carr (Charles); six grandchildren, Brandie Nicole Kelly, Stephen James Clifford Jr., Michael Garland Clifford, Brittany Tennille Kelly, Jack Wallace Kelly Jr., and Peter Hayes Clifford, all of South Florida; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends. Two Memorial Services will be held to honor Garland's life; the first will be held in Key West, Florida on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at 11:00 AM, Fifth Street Baptist Church (1311 5th Street). The second will be held in Fredericksburg, Virginia, on Friday, June 24, 2011 at 11:00 AM, Fredericksburg Baptist Church (1019 Princess Anne Street).
