Janie Adams Obituary

Dr. Janie Mae Adams
Miami, FL
Our beloved mother went home to glory on May 27, 2011 surrounded by loving family and friends. Born on January 9, 1926 in Atlanta, GA, the daughter of the late John and Sylvia (Beasley) Elliot. She was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years (Joseph G.) and the late Felton Simmons. During her professional career of 34 years with Dade County Public Schools, she touched the lives of many. She was a member of National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc.; Alpha Delta Chapter, serving as Basileus (President) from 1994-1998. Being one of the first Black educators to matriculate through the University of Miami, she received her Bachelors degree in 1972. Later, in 1976, she earned her Masters degree in Education from Nova University. Her devotion to God was present in her everyday life and led her to attain a Doctorate of Divinity. Traveling the world was her passion and she visited several countries as well as The Holy Land spreading the gospel through mission work. Survivors include sister Mary Jones (Clarence, deceased), children: Joseph (Darlene) Adams, Janie Favors, Milton Adams, Beverly Bradley, Angela Johnson, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins who will forever hold her dear in their hearts. Services 11:00 a.m. Saturday at New Vision for Christ Ministries. Arrangements through Wright & Young Funeral Home. View this guest book at www.MiamiHerald.com/obituaries.
