JEREMIAH STEWARD Obituary

STEWARD, JEREMIAH BEARMORE. Jerry, 82, passed away on Friday, May 13. He was a native of Miami and lived on Miami Beach for most of his life. He was a lifelong member of La Gorce Country Club, holding the distinction of the most senior member of the Club. Jerry was an exceptional golfer, winning many Club tournaments. He was most proud of winning the Father/Son Tournament with his father and later with his son; "eagling" all 18 holes at La Gorce; and managing to make 16 Hole in Ones during his lifetime. He attended the University of Florida and was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Jerry was a partner at Steward & Skinner Architects which designed many well known buildings and hospitals in Miami. Some of their projects include the original terminal at Miami International Airport, Miami Seaquarium, Coral Gables City Hall and the Eastern Airlines and Pan Am buildings. Jerry was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting and cooking gourmet meals for his family. An exceptional gardener, Jerry could grow anything and took special interest in his orchids. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janie Louise Steward; 2 sons, Jerry Jr. (Lanie) and Robert; daughter, Julia Louise Hebard (Donald); 3 grandchildren, Ashley, Mary Katherine and Jeremiah III; brother, Harold; sister, Virginia Mackle; and cousin, Jane Haulenbeek. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 20, at 4pm at Miami Beach Community Church at 500 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Diabetes Association. View this Guest Book at www. MiamiHerald.com/obituaries.

Jerry was a lot of fun to be around, always had fun on and off the golf course. Loved his seafood, made the best conch chowder I've ever eaten. Glad I knew him.

We will meet again at the 19th hole.

Our condolences, Jerry will be missed by so many of us outside of his family. Jerry accepted life as he accepted golf. Play the game whether you are in the fairway, the rough, or the traps without complaining. May he find only the fairways in Heaven.

I will always remember the orchids out back in and around the pool house at the home on Sunset where our large family of kids grew up along with the Stewards. Always with a joke or at least that gleam in his eye as if ready to tell one, Jerry senior will be missed by me and all who knew him

My biggest memory of Jerry was when I was 8 tricker treating on Halloween and rang the door bell and he came out in a scarey costume and yelled...I dropped my candy and ran. LOL!!! Had many great memories with Jerry and Janie with my parents Skip and Joanne at our house on Sunset Island and lots of great times at there house. La Gorce Country Club was the last time I saw him and gave him a big hug and kiss....I will always have great memories of a great loving man and fun man. Love to the family. He will be missed!!!

I have known Jerry for over 45 years. We hunted together, played golf, cruised the Bahamas and fished together and even donated blood when he had surgery needless to say he was a great friend and will be greatly missed.
