LEWIS FOGLE Obituary

FOGLE, LEWIS H., JR., was born June 3, 1919, in Canton, Ohio. His family moved to Miami in 1925. He graduated from Miami High and then from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Economics cum laude and Juris Doctorate. While at UM, he served as president of Pi Kappa Alpha and as an Iron Arrow chief. He was a "Cane" through and through. For over 60 years, he practiced law with a style and dignity few have ever seen. As a judge once remarked, "Lew Fogle isn't an attorney, he is a scholar of the law." He was, and shall always be, the standard by which a gentleman should be measured. Lew was a loving husband, father, uncle, and grandfather, and for those of us who knew and loved him, our lives were better for it. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 63 years, Virginia Lee (The Boss), and daughter, Margaret Susan. He is survived by his son, Lewis H. Fogle,III, (Salty), granddaughter, Elizabeth Updike, and two grandsons, Christopher Fogle and Lewis H. Fogle, IV. Memorial Services will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church on Saturday, June 9, 2012, at 3 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to Christ the King Lutheran Church, 11295 Southwest 57th Avenue, Miami, Florida 33156. View this Guest Book at www. MiamiHerald.com/obituaries.

Dear Salty, Elizabeth, Chris and Lewis-

Your Dad and Grandfather was truly a Gentleman Attorney and a role model for so many of us that knew him. I can count on one hand the number of Attorneys I have known over 58 years that had the integrity, professionalism and honesty as Lew Fogle exemplified!

Lew and Ginny were the perfect team for 63 years and loved all of their children and grandchildren. They both were from the Greatest Generation and showed it to all of us that knew them or met them. Their loyalty and support to the University of Miami and especially the football program never wavered when there were small crowds at the Orange Bowl, few supporters, fewer donors and the possibility of ending the UM Football Program.

They were always there in the Orange Bowl end zone with their motorhome, my Dad and Mom's Motorhome and the other Alumni that would never give up on their University. They always welcomed and were hosts to many hundreds of fans that would come to the endzone for pre-game, halftime and aftergame food and drinks.

Mr. Fogle was also our Family Attorney representing and helping all of the Paskewich Family with his legal brilliance and guidance. As an old-fashioned Gentleman Attorney, he didn't charge by the tenth of an hour like the majority of Attorneys do.

My 92-year old Mother always looked forward to calling Lew to tell him she had bags full of Avocados from her groves waiting for him to pick them up. Every season he would drive himself over to her house for his special Avocados.

He was a wonderful and loyal friend that could always be counted on for his advise and counsel. May all of his Family that took such great care of him to see him live to his 93rd Birthday be blessed for their dedication to a wonderful man.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the Fogle Family. There is a special place in Heaven for Lew.

My Mother Lynn and my Sister Lisa are in North Carolina and won't be able to return to Miami in time for the Memorial Service, but they will be with you all in spirit.

"Chris and Elizabeth, you two are the proof of what a great grandfather (and grandmother) you had. You are as classy as they were. Our hearts are with you."

Dear Fogle Family, what a beautiful write up of Lew. We have loved the many years spent with the Fogle family at UM games, watching UM games and celebrating about everything possible. The motorhome, and its Captain Lew, are such great memories of all of our families' times together. Too bad we didn't get the book written, "As the motor home turns". The entire Fogle family is a part of our family and we will dearly miss Lew. We are sure Ginny was there waiting for him with her famous turkey "dip" and a bit of libation. All our love and blessings to a Cane forever! Linda & David Brown and the Dunn family
