LUCILLE ELIZABETH EASLEY STEPHENS

LUCILLE STEPHENS Obituary

STEPHENS, LUCILLE ELIZABETH EASLEY, 93, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 14, 2011. She died peacefully in her sleep in her Miami Lakes home. Mrs. Stephens is survived by her brother Ralph Easley, nephews Ralph Easley and Gerald Easley, and niece Lucille Seigel, as well as many cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was loved by all. Lucille was born on October 13, 1917 in Cincinnati, Ohio. A few years later, her family moved to Lexington, Kentucky. In 1937, she married her neighbor, Woodford C. "Woody" Stephens, an aspiring thoroughbred jockey. After a short attempt at a riding, Woody embarked on a career in thoroughbred training. Over a period of sixty years, Woody trained winners of every major stake race in the USA including the 1954 Preakness, the 1974 and 1984 Kentucky Derby's, and five consecutive Belmont winners, 1982 through 1986. His Hall-of- Fame career brought Woody and Lucille into the company of Presidents, Kings, and Sheiks. Mrs. Stephens was the owner of many successful stake horses and broodmares, but she will be most remembered for her love and devotion to her family and her generosity. In recent years, her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ became increasingly important to Mrs. Stephens. In 2008, as a public statement of that faith, she was baptized by her nephew Ralph, an ordained minister. Services for Mrs. Stephens will be at the Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, 3421 Harrodsburg Road, Lexington, KY, 859-223-3140. Date and time TBA. Mrs. Stephens will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Lexington, Kentucky, next to her husband Woody. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Race Track Chaplaincy of America, 2365 Harrodsburg Road, Suite A120, Lexington, KY 40504, are suggested. View this Guest Book at www. Lucille was my mother's 1st cousin. Lucille's mother, Aunt Nancy, was my grandfathers sister. I loved Lucille so much and have fond memories of her.
