Marta Alvarez Obituary

Marta Laura Alvarez, age 74, widow of Vicente and beloved mother of Martha, Vincent, and Tito. She passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 28th, surrounded by her children. Marta Laura was born in Havana Cuba. She had the distinct honor of having the late Marta Fernandez Batista, the former first lady of Cuba, as her godmother. She loved and admired her dearly and the feeling was mutual. In 1965, Marta Laura left Cuba with her family and went into exile in Chicago, where they lived for over ten years. She was a great Cuban patriot and became an even prouder American citizen. Recently Marta Laura became a devoted listener to La Poderosa, a Cuban-American radio station. She considered herself their biggest fan. She especially loved a program hosted by Zoe Cardona called "El Club de los Duendes". Her "duendes" and family will miss her tremendously for her genuinely sweet and loving nature. We will always have her with us. In her favorite way of saying goodbye on the radio - shampoo de carinos para todos. Shampoo of love to all and may the Almighty God be with you always.

Not sure what to say?

December 27, 2011

For a long time I've wanted to leave my condolences here, but have put it off because I've struggled with what to say. After all this time, it has become clear to me that there is nothing that i, or anyone, can say. However, the best I can do is to remind you that they are, and always will be, with you. Amor eterno.

Estimada Familia Alvarez
