KURFERST, NORMAN, 87, of Miami, passed away Oct. 23, 2012. A resident of Miami since 1956 when he relocated from West New York, New Jersey. Attended Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey and was a World War II Veteran serving in the South Pacific Theater. Left the Active Army Reserve prior to coming to Florida as an Infantry Captain. Was an active Real Estate Appraiser employed by the Federal Housing Administration for twenty years as Residential Appraiser, Multi Family Appraiser, Multi Family Coordinator, Assistant Chief Underwriter and Deputy Chief Underwriter in the South Florida Insuring Office. Operated an Independent Fee Appraisal Practice in Coral Gables from 1977 to 1992. Held the Professional Designation of ASA, Senior Member of the American Society of Appraisers and was President of the Miami Chapter in 1977 and 1978 RM, Residential Member, and MAI Member of the Appraisal Institute and was President of the South Florida Chapter in 1980. Served on the Appraisal Institute Faculty teacing the Residential Appraisal Course at University of Maryland, University of Tampa and Florida International University. Husband of the late Winifred Mae Hess Kurferst and is survived by a daughter Karen Kurferst Somoano, a grandson Daniel Somoano, daughter-in-law Esther Costa and a granddaughter Ava Carolina Kurferst Costa and all who knew and loved him. A Memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, October 26, 2012 at Riverside Gordon Memorial Chapel Kendall, 5900 SW 77 Ave., Miami, FL.R
