ROBERT MARTIN "BOB" KIENKER

ROBERT KIENKER Obituary

KIENKER, ROBERT "BOB" MARTIN, 74, passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2010 of a massive brain hemorrhage. He had been very ill for over a year. Bob was born May 5, 1936 in Kansas City, Missouri but spent most of his childhood years living in Mexico City. He graduated from the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Architecture. Bob moved to Miami in 1971 where he resided until 1995. While living in Miami, he turned his architectural expertise to airport planning and later on became Chief of Planning for the Dade County Aviation Department. He was in charge of many major projects connected with the airport in the 10 years he was with the department. Later he went to work for HNTB and Parson Corporation and worked on the planning and design for airports throughout the world including Seoul, South Korea; Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates; Ronald Reagan International; Jacksonville International; Lisbon, Portugal; Athens, Greece; San Diego and many, many more. Bob truly loved airports and all of the planning that went into making an airport flow the way he thought was best for people. He moved to Jacksonville in the year 2000 where he has resided ever since. Bob loved golf and spent many vacations traveling from golf course to golf course throughout the country with his wife, but in sports, his true love was the Miami Dolphins. Through thick and thin he was a Dolphins fan. He leaves behind his wife of 26 years, Linda; daughter, Leigh; grandson, Hugh; stepson, William and beloved pet dog, Joey. His Grandson Hugh, who lives in San Francisco, gave him much love and pleasure. They loved to go to the beach every summer when Hugh came to visit. Bob was so proud to see him learn how to surf the first time he tried. He was a good Man, Husband, Father, friend and neighbor to all. Bob will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Everyone who was a friend or co-worker cared for and respected him very much. Cedar Bay Funeral Home, 405 New Berlin Road, Jacksonville, FL, (904) 714-1110 in charge of services. Dear Linda, I am so sorry to hear of Bob's passing. He was a good man and very talented to boot. I started working with Bob in 1975 when we both worked on the FIS building, he worked for HOR and I worked for Berry and Ellis. I then had the pleasure to continue working with him while he was at DCAD/MDAD and HNTB as well as Parsons. I last spoke to Bob in November of 09 right after his hospital stay. He was very up on life and it made me feel optimistic to see that someone who had just had a set back had that much zeal for life. That was a special moment that I will not soon forget. He has left his fingerprints on MIA and every where he worked as well as in the hearts of many. My prayers and thoughts are with you.
God Bless you
