Schechter, Roy Robert "Rob", JR., (60), died Wednesday, November 7, 2012. Cherished husband, father, nephew and friend, he is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Catherine "Terry", son George, daughter Nicole and son-in-law Adam Darnell and by his beloved aunt Patricia Papper and his father Roy R. Schechter. An intelligent, witty, raconteur and man-about-town, his devotion to his family was matched by his devotion to Miami-Dade. He lived a multi-faceted life. As the scion of the pioneering Meyer family, whose Wolfson-Meyer mark in Miami in the entertainment and services industry is still felt, his childhood was filled with adventures and experiences usually only found in the annals of literature. After education in Miami at Miami Country Day School, his schooling continued at Franklin College in Lugano, Switzerland, where he met his Greek bride, then a classmate. They shared a love of life and a commitment to community. Rob enjoyed a successful career as a top producing Realtor at EWM Realty. He set the bar high, was loved and admired by his beloved peers who always sought, enjoyed and benefitted from his immense knowledge and history of Miami's luxury residential market. Rob always conducted his business as the class act gentleman that he was. His integrity, utmost respect and kindness towards everyone, and his constant concern for doing what is "correct" were qualities that came naturally to him and rewarded him with an impeccable reputation. He loved his Miami and was active in numerous civic and charitable endeavors. The Wolfsonian-FIU Museum and The Cushman School were two of his favorites. Rob loved the finer things in life, the hunt for a perfect car, a fine cigar, good dining and above all his dogs were his passion. His courage and positive attitude as he fought a rare thyroid cancer were an inspiration to his family. Memorial services will be held at Temple Israel of Greater Miami, 137 N.E. 19th Street, Miami, FL 33132 on Monday, November 12th at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, in memory of Rob Schechter, Sylvester Development Office, P.O. Box 016960 (M-867) Miami, FL 33101 and or The Rob Schechter Memorial Fund, Knowles Animal Clinic, 1000 NW 27th Avenue, Miami, FL 33125.
